This Numerology analysis for Bob Dylan is for his Expression Number. We explain the meaning of this number in his chart and then discuss the analysis below..

Your Expression number reveals your physical and mental constitution, the orientation or goal of your life.  Some numerologists refer to this number as the Destiny, because it represents a lifelong target at which you are aiming.  You work at fulfilling this potential every day of your life.  Thus, the Expression number reveals your inner goal, the person you aim to be. The Expression number reveals the talents, abilities, and shortcomings that were with you when you entered your human body.  Your name, and the numbers derived from it, reveals your development, as well as the talents and issues you will be working with during this life.

For those for whom reincarnation is an accepted philosophy, the vibration of your full name can be seen as the totality of your personal evolution, the experiences, talents, and wisdom accumulated over many life times.  Every experience, no matter how great or small, along this evolutionary path has influenced your development, and brought you to your current state of being.

The Expression is your being; the Life Path is the major lesson you are attempting to learn this time around.  Time allows the gradual emergence of your personality.  By reading the Expression number below, you will come to understand your basic nature and the abilities and issues inherent in your being.

Bob Dylan: Your Expression is 18/9

Bob, you are the humanitarian.  You are attracted to a cause or a movement whose purpose is to make a better world.  You are extremely idealistic, sometimes to the point of being naive about people or methods.  You have great compassion and seek to create a more humane society.  You are drawn to those who suffer physically or are at the hand of injustice.  You are the righter of wrongs.  Your deepest intention is to transform the world.

Could there be a more perfect description for Bob Dylan? The text seems almost written specifically for him, but it actually arises purely from the number analysis! Of course, the world knows of Bob Dylan’s humanitarian focus – early on during the 1960′s Protest movements marching for Black people’s rights, right through to being the instigator of the Farm Aid concerts in the 1980′s. As regards being drawn to right wrongs, we think of his campaign to release the boxer Ruben “Hurricane” Carter in 1975 as a classic example of this. His songs have always reflected the suffering and needs of the downtrodden and the dispossessed. As for transforming the world, he certainly transformed the Music world by (a) making songs that mean something and have a message acceptable within the genre, and (b) turning the song into an art form, into poetry, lifting it up from the simplistic formula that it had been enslaved to until his arrival upon the scene.

You are willing to sacrifice in order to advance your cause.  Indeed, this seems to be a theme in your life.  From time to time, you find yourself involved in a project whose very life depends upon your willingness to sacrifice something that relates directly to your ego.

You are highly idealistic.  You are also a visionary, with the ability to influence and direct the masses.  Deep inside, you long for the love and approval of the many, and seek fame.

Classic descriptions of Bob Dylan once more, seemingly written for him. Of course, we know that fame does not just appear unbidden except in very rare cases. It has to be pursued. Dylan certainly did this in the early years of his career and had tremendous ambition, even at a time when he had little or no demonstrable talent to show! Dylan certainly is a visionary, not only via the artistic perspective through which he views the world, but most especially in his songs. Classic visionary songs include Jokerman, Series Of Dreams, Desolation Row, Visions Of Johanna, Sad Eyed Lady Of The Lowlands… and many more.

Part of your hunger for fame has to do with your need for validation; you are your own harshest critic.

Bob, you realize your greatest satisfaction when you are involved in some activity that directly benefits the public good.  Politics, law, protection of the environment, teaching, and healing are areas in which you would succeed.

You have a broad view of humanity and are not shackled with prejudice. You should have friends and associates from all walks of life, all colors and religious backgrounds.  People fascinate and enrich you.  A wide diversity of people and experiences stimulate and bring forth qualities within you that would otherwise lay dormant.

You have an abundance of artistic talent.  Many with your Expression number find themselves in the arts, especially in literature, painting, and the visual and performing arts.

The number 9 indicates the completion of a cycle or a block of learning.  The 9 Expression suggests that you have reached the point where a breakthrough can occur; during this lifetime you can apply all that you have learned along your evolutionary path and complete a major stage in your development.  This is why we find many geniuses with the 9 Expression.

Again, it all looks like it was written with Dylan in mind, and yet this is pure Numerology, i.e. what the 18/9 Expression combination would say for anyone with this in their chart. Clearly, in this life, Bob Dylan HAS brought it all together and applies all that he has learned and gained in previous lives to manifest the genius artist that he is. Indeed, not only is he a great writer, and performer, he is also a painter too!

You have the ability to synthesize many diverse bits of knowledge into a unified whole.

Bob, your appearance is important.  You are keenly aware of how others perceive you.  As a result, others see you as a person with a great deal of control.

Conversely, you are charismatic.  Despite the cool and distant personality you project, people are attracted to you.

SO true! Dylan’s charisma is something that friends and fellow celebrities mention often and have done so throughout his career. He does indeed have a very cool and distant personality, a person with a thick shell of reserve who is hard to get to. Yet, people are indeed attracted to him, because of his creativity, and because of what he has done for them in their lives, through opening them up to new awareness and visionary breakthrough.

You tend to express your love somewhat impersonally.  You tend to be preoccupied with your vision or cause, and sometimes overlook the needs of those closest to you.  You need to be reminded to give your love more personally and more openly.  Ironically, you are a very loving and sincere person, but often neglect to express what you truly feel.

In the same way, you can overlook your own needs.  You can avoid sharing of your deeper feelings, creating a reservoir of emotion.  You tend to postpone your personal satisfaction in favor of some larger work.  Try to be more spontaneous and courageous about showing your real self, including your vulnerability.

Most of us will never know Bob Dylan personally, and hence well enough to ever know if the above paragraphs are true. However, they seem intuitively to make sense from what we know of him. Moreover, if the accuracy of the rest of this Expression Number analysis is anything to go by, we can probably be confident that this is a valid description of his private nature.

Your basic belief in the goodness of humanity is unshakable.  This causes you to encourage the best in people, but occasionally makes you vulnerable to being taken advantage of.  You are not a very good judge of character.

The surest way to personal satisfaction is for you to become part of some larger social cause.  Your nature is to serve.  You are happiest when you feel you are helping to advance the human race.

Also spot on. We have countless examples throughout Bob Dylan’s career of this. However, it may also be reflected in the fact that, despite approaching the age of seventy when these words are being written, Dylan continues to perform live probably more often than any other musician you could care to name. Maybe it has more to do with getting himself out there and benefiting his audience – of doing what he is MEANT to do – than it has to do with fame or money or anything else.

In conclusion, this analysis of Bob Dylan’s Expression Number is spot on. It makes even more sense when compared with his Numerology Life Path Number.

In Numerology,  if ever there was a moment of total transformation, it was the moment of your  birth. In that instant, you stepped through a door in time into a new reality — the  reality of human life. The most important number in your numerology chart is  based on the date of your birth, the moment when the curtain goes up in your life.

Even at that moment, you were a person with your own unique character, as  unique as your DNA. Everything that is you existed in potential, much like a play  that is about to begin. Your entire life exists as a potential that has been prepared  for. Bob, you have ultimate freedom to do with your life as you like: To fulfill its  potential completely, or to make some smaller version of yourself. It all depends  upon your effort and commitment. You make the decisions to fulfill, to whatever  extent, the potential life that exists within you. That is your choice. In this sense,  the possible you is implicit during the moment of your birth.

The Life Path number gives us a broad outline of the opportunities, challenges,  and lessons we will encounter in this lifetime. Your Life path is the road you are  traveling. It reveals the opportunities and challenges you will face in life. Your Life  Path number is the single most important information available in your Personality

Your Life Path is 17/8

Bob, you are gifted with natural leadership and the capacity to accumulate  great wealth. You have great talent for management in all areas of life, especially  in business and financial matters. You understand the material world; you  intuitively know what makes virtually any enterprise work. Your talent lies not with the bookkeeping or petty management, but with the greater vision, its purpose,  and long range goals.

Clearly, we see in this case that the Numerology Life Path number indicates for Bob Dylan a “natural leadership”, coupled with the ability to make a financial fortune, both of which we know to be true. His Life Path number also indicates a person of “greater vision… and long range goals”. Since Dylan is known as a visionary, this is all very apt.

You are a visionary and a bit reckless. You possess the ability to inspire people to join you in your quest, but often they are incapable of seeing what you see. Therefore, those around you need your continual guidance, inspiration, and  encouragement. You must prod them into action and direct them along the lines  of your vision.

Again, the Numerological forecast is spot on. Both a visionary and a bit reckless; we think of Bob Dylan leaving home as a teenager on a one way train journey to New York, where he knew nobody, with only enough spare change in his pocket. Of course, the ability to inspire people and see what others do not see is beyond question. And yes, being “the voice of a generation” as he was called, he has indeed provided “continual guidance, inspiration and encouragement.”

You attract financial success more than any other Life Path, but effort is required.

Bob, your challenge in life is to achieve a high degree of detachment, to  understand that power and influence must be used for the benefit of mankind.  Those born with the Number 8 Life Path, who do not understand the real and relative value of money are bound to suffer the consequences of greed; they run  the risk of losing it all!

It looks as if Dylan intuitively understands this lesson and was able to handle it extremely well from the beginning because he has indeed used his creative powers as well as the influence that eventually came with it to uplift mankind throughout the last four decades.

You must learn to bounce back from failures and defeats. You have the character and resilience of a true survivor. It is not uncommon for a person with  your Life Path to experience major reverses, including bankruptcies, financial  failure, but you also have the talent and the sheer guts to make more than one  fortune, and build many successful enterprises. More than most people, your failures in marriage can be extremely expensive for you.

Bob Dylan’s longevity in the music industry, despite all the fads and trends is legendary. Hence, he does indeed display the character and resilience, personally and artistically, of a “true survivor”. He has indeed experienced major reversals, such as the motorcycle accident in 1966 which nearly killed him and put him out of commission for many months, with rumors circulating that he had indeed died. Another “major reversal” was his conversion to Christianity, which caused him to lose many fans, suffer the ridicule of music critics, and have his music (excellent though it was during this period) be unfairly lambasted. His divorce from his wife Sarah in 1978 was, as indicated here, extremely expensive, and is considered by some to be a motivation for the 1978 World Tour, cynically dubbed “the Alimony Tour”.

Despite the difficulties that life presents, you will experience the satisfaction that comes from material wealth and the power that comes with it.

Business, finance, real estate, law, science (particularly history, archeology, and physics), publishing, and the management of large institutions are among the vocational fields that suit you best. You are naturally attracted to positions of influence and leadership — Politics, social work, and teaching are among the many other areas where your abilities can shine.

You are a good judge of character, which aids you well in attracting the right people to you.

It looks like this is true as well in the broadest sense. Dylan is still alive whereas many of his artist colleagues from the sixties are dead, often attributable to the bad company they kept. Unlike many artists such as Springsteen and Hendrix, Bob Dylan did not get caught up in long drawn out legal wrangles with his first manager as a result of signing unfair contracts etc. He does indeed seem to have had the ability to attract “the right people” to him, such as Joan Baez, the famous protest singer who took Dylan under her wing, promoted him and basically made him famous.

Most 8s like large families and sometimes tend to keep others dependent longer than necessary. Although jovial in nature you are not demonstrative in showing your love and affection.

The desire for luxury and comfort is especially strong in you. Status is very important. You must be careful to avoid living above your means.

Bob, your Numerology Life Path treads that dangerous ground where power lies — and can corrupt. You may become too self important, arrogant, and domineering, thinking that your way is the only way. This leads inevitably to isolation and conflict. The people you run the risk of hurting most are those you love, your family and friends.

Be careful of becoming stubborn, intolerant, overbearing, and impatient. These characteristics may be born early in the life of an 8 Life Path, who often learn these negative traits after suffering under a tyrannical parent or a family burdened by repressive religious or intellectual dogmas.

Those with the 8 Life Path usually possess a strong physique, which is a symptom of their inherent strength and resiliency.

Dylan, approaching his 70th birthday at the time this Numerology article was written, is perpetually on tour and has been (apart from short breaks of just a few months) for nearly two decades. The Road, as it is called, has killed off many artists, but Dylan lives on, to perform and perform, doing what he knows and loves best.
